First branch office in Chennai

"K" Line Ship Management Company (India) Pvt Limited (KLSM India) is steaming full ahead and spreading its wings in to reach areas beyond the shores of Mumbai. The Company's first branch office has been established in Chennai on August 7, 2008. The  office and was formally inaugurated by Mr S. Kuboshima, President, KLSM Tokyo.

After the function, Mr Kuboshima said, 'With the opening of the Branch Office in Chennai, we are looking forward to improved communication with our pool members from the southern region. Now we are in a position to provide better welfare for the family members of our officers.' He expressed confidence that the office would ease the process of familiarization, briefing and training of junior officers prior to their joining vessels.

The office would help monitor the progress made by the trainees selected from Institutes located in the region' and thereby help establish and spread of 'K-Line spirit'.

He referred to the event as another milestone for KLSM (India) and for KLSM / K-Line family' adding that it was a true reflection of the commitment that K-Line family has towards India and Indian seafarers. He hoped that other events would be held to bear evidence for the commitment of the company towards the officers and their families.

The Chennai based officers who are sailing with KLSM are thrilled with the opening of the new office in their home city. Mr Acham Elango, chief engineer from Chennai said, 'my family is happy that our office is now located in Chennai. I came for the inauguration with my wife and children. From now onwards while I am out at sea, it is easy for my wife to interact with the local office. Now I can spend more time with my family and I need not report to Mumbai prior to joining vessel. Also, Albert Joseph, the manager of Chennai branch is extremely helpful and he always ready to render any assistance'.

He will be getting married very soon and he feels that his spouse would find it very easy to get in touch with the office in Chennai whenever required.

He also added, 'It is a nice experience sailing with KLSM. The working atmosphere is excellent and we have all the facilities on board and are looked after well when we are on leave’.

The India operations of  KLSM Tokyo, began as a Liaison Office in Mumbai. Gradually, KLSM established its own office in Mumbai in the year 2004. The activities are mainly related to the welfare of seafarers working with KLSM. The status of the Mumbai Liaison office was upgraded in March 2007, to a fully owned subsidiary of the "K" Line Ship Management Company Limited, Tokyo. The Indian subsidiary was then named as "K" Line Ship Management (India) Private Limited and operations commenced in May 2007.

At present total number of ships manned by KLSM has risen to 30. Management of all types of vessels has been KLSM's forte and they have been continuously expanding and upgrading ships and the services. With 347 Indian officers sailing on KLSM vessels, they have already initiated in-house training facilities to enhance the quality and the skills of the seafarers.
